Dermot McCormack

Dermot Mac Cormack graduated from the National College of Art & Design in Dublin, Ireland, and worked in various design studios, both in Ireland and Philadelphia before joining Temple University in 1997. He is currently Chair of the Graphic Arts & Design Department and an associate professor in the Graphic & Interactive Design Program at Tyler School of Art, Temple University, in Philadelphia. His work has earned numerous awards and has appeared in design publications both nationally and internationally, such as Communications Arts Magazine, Graphis Posters Annual, Graphis Design, How Magazine, Print Magazine, Applied Arts, and Horizon Interactive. His work has been exhibited in the Golden Bee, in Moscow, The Fourth Bloc, in the Ukraine, and various national exhibitions in the US. His work has been also been featured in: “Design School Confidential” by Stephen Heller, “Visual Language for Designers” by Connie Malamed, “New Big Book of Layouts” by Joel Anderson,“Graphic Design Solutions” by Robin Landa, and “Typerules!” by Ilene Strizver. As well as being an educator, Dermot and his wife, Patricia McElroy, are partners in their multidisciplinary design studio, 21xdesign. His passion for design and education has always been driven by the desire to both learn from, and inspire, the next generation of designers. He has been fortunate to also teach in international Temple University locations, in Rome and Tokyo. He is married with two children, various pets, and lives outside Philadelphia.
