Jonny Kofoed is a Motion Design Director based in Auckland, New Zealand. He is one of the owners and founding members of Assembly, the award-winning design, animation and visual effects company. He works on projects spanning VFX, animation, design, interactive, and film. Alongside his work in traditional advertising, he has directed music videos, designed games, developed TV concepts for Nickelodeon, and even designed a tombstone.

It all started at The Wellington School of Design where he studied industrial design, graphic design and textile design, later settling into a double major in animation and interactive design ...with a strong interest in photography and art history. He couldn't get enough - even taking night courses in printmaking on top of his studies. Jonny landed a job at Silverscreen Films in Wellington the day of his graduation, initially as an Interactive Designer, but later transitioning to 'Flame Artist' where he combined his love of design with visual effects.

He was one of the original members of New Zealand's VFX and design studio Oktobor, seeing it grow from just a few people to over sixty in just a few years. During this time he went from Flame Artist, to Art Director, ending up on the management team as Creative Director.

Jonny's passion for design education in New Zealand has seen him serve as a board member (representing Industry) for tertiary institutes and also a consultant for universities wanting to change their course structure. He is a frequent guest lecturer at universities around the country, and will one day most likely end up wearing a corduroy jacket with elbow patches.

SInce Assembly opened its doors six years ago, Jonny and his company have been recognized consistently every year at every major award show, including D&AD and Cannes. Jonny is a regular on juries locally and internationally and loves the judging process, especially when it involves a fierce debate and those little club sandwich things.
