The opening sequence for David Fincher's new adaptation of Stieg Larsson's "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" is a stunning piece of live animation conceived by Blur Studio Creative Director Tim Miller and Fincher. Their goal was to defy notions of what opening credits should look like —they definitely succeeded here.
Imagery from the book series is weaved throughout the two-and-a-half minute sequence--a tattoo, a wasp, and objects bursting into flame, set to a violent cover of “Immigration Song” by Karen O and Trent Reznor. In each scene, objects are covered in a thick black sludge--the vignettes were built in CG, using scans of actors in the movie.
