The people at CP+B/Boulder that brought you the Jello “Pudding Face” campaign have installed a billboard that uses Twitter to gauge the world’s mood, giving away free pudding when collective happiness levels drop. The installation is at the corner of West Broadway and Grand in NY. The Soho billboard monitors Twitter every seven seconds, searches for smiley or frowny emoticons, then adjusts the percentage, and in turn, the expression on the billboard’s “Pudding Face.” The result is a fascinating (if slightly unnerving) example of the endless possibilities of interactive media and advertising colliding. On a recent visit, “Pudding Face” was mostly in neutral territory, but we did witness a few moderate smiles (unfortunately nothing in the realm of the trademark grin in Jello’s commercials). All in all, an inventive approach to selling pudding.
