It was 30 years ago today that President Reagan threatened to fire 13,000 Air Traffic Controllers, unless they called off an illegal strike. PATCO was the union. Reagan believed in collective bargaining but not the right to strike. He broke the union and most lost their jobs and some went back to work. But it cost more to restore the nations air system then to give the workers their demands! Some bullies just don't care about the bottom line. This incident brings to mind the classic International Ladies Garment Workers Union song and ads the great Paula Green created. Paula worked for DDB in the heyday under Phyllis Robinson. She also wrote the classic Avis ad "We Try Harder" Watch the ad...
