A major component of The One Club mission is to educate and inspire students of the business and to benefit the next generation of creatives through scholarships, portfolio reviews, annual exhibitions and competitions.
The One Club Creative Boot Camp is a diversity initiative with the goal of recruiting creative students from multicultural backgrounds who may not be aware of advertising or design as viable career options.
Creative Boot Camp is an intensive 4-day workshop introducing students to the creative side of advertising. Students work on behalf of a real client and follow steps outlined by the industry — receiving a brief, concepting, creating a campaign, and pitching it to a group of top industry creatives who determine the best work.
The beauty of this program is in the short time line. While other boot camps ask students to dedicate anywhere from two weeks to an entire summer to explore advertising, ours is a quick immersion to introduce them to the field. If a participating student finds that he or she is interested in pursuing a career in the industry, The One Club is able to use our connections to facilitate further opportunities within this field.
This November has been a busy month for the One Club Creative Boot Camp with sessions taking place both in and out of the country.
November 1st – 4th, the One Club Creative Boot Camp traveled to Atlanta where they hosted their 3rd annual creative boot camp at Morehouse College. With 80 students participating from 8 colleges and universities across the area, the session, sponsored by Publicis Kaplan Thaler, offered students the opportunity to work on a brief from a top brand and work with creative professionals from agencies such as JWT Atlanta and Fitzgerald and Co.
On November 15th - 18th, the One Club’s Creative Boot Camp traveled to London, bringing together some of the top advertising creatives, educators and students in the U.K. for it’s award winning workshop. It also happened to be their first international Boot Camp session. With over 150 students from 12 different colleges and universities in the London area participating in the program, this session was the One Club's largest boot camp session yet, hosted by the London College of Communication.
Created by The One Club to foster and cultivate a diverse group of multicultural talent for the creative advertising industry, Creative Boot Camp workshops offer advertising and design students an opportunity to conceptualize and build an ad campaign from the ground up for a real client.
“Building on the success of our Creative Boot Camps throughout the U.S., we’re excited to be able to take the workshops international for the first time and for the opportunity to work with multicultural students in in London,” said Tiffany Edwards, education and diversity director at The One Club. “The goal of The One Club program is to inspire minority students, introduce them to new opportunities in the world of advertising and, hopefully, lead them on their path to creative internships and jobs after graduation.”
Creative Boot Camp is the recipient of the prestigious Mosaic Award, the Multi-ethnic Student Program from the American Advertising Federation (AAF) in 2011. Since its inception in 2010, the four-day workshop has helped kick start the advertising careers of numerous graduating students, with internships and job offers at such agencies including Wieden+Kennedy, DraftFCB, Ogilvy and Y&R.
In the U.S. Creative Boot Camp workshops return to Los Angeles, New York and Chicago in the first quarter of 2013.
In addition to Creative Boot Camp, The One Club’s Education and Diversity Department offers several programs throughout the year including the Young Ones Competition, the Annual Student Exhibition, the Where Are All the Black People? conference and career fair and seasonal Portfolio Reviews.
The programs are designed to connect leading industry creatives with aspiring students and young professionals for invaluable one-on-one critiques, internships and creative entry-level positions.
