Job Summary

We are looking for an exceptional UX/UI designer who is eager to start initially as an individual contributor and then evolve into a role where they will build out and lead a product design team.  

As Director of UX/UI, your specific responsibilities will include development and oversight of a consistent and effective Product Design process in close partnership with our Directors of Product and our engineering teams. Initial focus is on web before we eventually expand into mobile.

You should have an online portfolio demonstrating stunning product design work with an emphasis on enterprise solutions. Additionally, our ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, fantastic attitude, and be comfortable tackling any challenge set before them. We provide significant flexibility and autonomy to team members, have high expectations, and expect everyone to contribute meaningfully to our broader collective goals.


? Develop and oversee the Fractal Product Design process in close coordination with product and engineering.

? Own the interaction concept, storyboard, architecture, wireframe, prototype and QA for user experiences

? Over time, hire and lead other members of the design team as we aggressively enhance and expand our product portfolio

? Supervise the creation of production-ready art assets and style guides for implementation

? Generate, conceptualize, brainstorm, and execute ideas that bring brand attributes and products to life

? Interface with clients for Fractal product design reviews and refinement (requires occasional travel)

? Work with the engineering staff and product leads to review technically difficult UX features to ensure features can be executed accurately against design concepts

? Provide guidance to customer on current UX/UI trends, device environments, and product roadmap planning

? Work with product leads and sales staff to communicate custom dashboards, visualizations, or other capabilities during RFP responses, executing the design work or directing a designer on executing the vision

? Embody high creative standards, providing detailed direction and insight to design and product teams


? Reside in the greater Washington, D.C. area or be able to relocate

? Bachelor's Degree in Design or relevant creative field

? 5+ years of professional design experience

? Strong track record for bringing exceptionally well designed web-based products to market

? Exceptional visual, verbal and presentation skills

? Deep knowledge of typography, layouts, and responsive design

? Consistent track record for delivering commitments on time, with minimal supervision

? Commitment to responsiveness, high quality work, confidentiality and customer service

? Strong collaboration and leadership skills


? Web development skills

? Expert in Adobe Suite and Keynote

? Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, Git, and low-fidelity concept design tools

? Experience with A/B testing initiatives

? Understanding of art and video production
