HONDA?S ?COG? SPOT, CREATED BY WIEDEN + KENNEDY/LONDON, WINS BEST IN SHOW

TBWA network takes home the most Pencils; BBDO and Crispin Porter + Bogusky run a close second and third

New York, NY ? May 14, 2004 ? ?Cog? continues its drive to be the most awarded ad of the year, as it won the prestigious Best of Show at the 2004 One Show presentation held here this evening.

The One Show held its annual awards gala at the Winter Garden of the World Financial Center tonight, with agency network TBWA winning the largest number of Pencils, 13, five of which were Gold. Also winning five Gold Pencils were BBDO, which won a total of 12 Pencils overall, and DDB, which won a total of 10 Pencils. Tying BBDO for the second-highest number of Pencils overall was Miami-based Crispin Porter + Bogusky, which also won 12, four of which were Gold.

Sponsored by The One Club, the foremost non-profit creative organization in the world devoted to the professional development of advertising?s creative community, The One Show is now in its 33rd year. It honors the best work in print, television, radio, newspaper, magazines and out of home advertising, as well as a wide range of design categories. In addition, it annually presents awards for student work and presents the Patrick Kelley Scholarship to a promising ad student.

The awards were presented before an audience of over 500 industry professionals. For the second year in a row, The One Show presented a special Advertiser of the Year Pencil to the top executive of the client company whose work performed strongest in the competition. This year, the Pencil was presented to Uli Becker, Global Brand Communications Director, Adidas International. Seven Pencils were presented for advertising created on behalf of Adidas, through the agency alliance of TBWA and 180.

TBWA Worldwide, the top-winning agency network at the One Show this year, was also recognized for its famous Sony Playstation work, mostly developed by TBWA\Chiat\Day in Playa Del Ray, Calif., and TBWA offices in Paris and London. TBWA\Chiat\Day won the most Pencils of any TBWA office--1 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze, as well as Merit awards for Apple.

Other highlights include: BBDO?s New York headquarters won one Gold and three Silvers for its Fed Ex and Guinness clients, with its Auckland, New Zealand-based agency Colenso pulling in two Gold and one Bronze Pencils and Dusseldorf and Johannesburg each scoring a Gold. Crispin Porter + Bogusky?s work for MINI continued to be a One Show favorite (the Miami-based agency won Best of Show for its MINI work in 2003) winning five Pencils this year, primarily in the Print category. In addition, Crispin shared six Pencils for long-time American Legacy Foundation ?truth? client, with its partner Arnold Worldwide, while its Los Angeles office snagged a Silver Pencil for Borders.

The Gold Pencils for Exception Innovation in Marketing, sponsored by Yahoo!, went to 180/TBWA for Adidas? stunning ?Vertical Football? outdoor ad, which featured live soccer players suspended from a billboard, and to Wieden + Kennedy/New York for its ?Beta-7? campaign for ESPN Videogames/Sega, which used a complex and diverse set of web sites, blogs and postings to create buzz around a videogame product.

?It was interesting to see the scope of creativity and work exhibited by the large networks, in addition to the cutting-edge work we?ve come to expect from boutique agencies and smaller networks,? said Mary Warlick, Executive Director of The One Club. ?The breadth and scope of Pencil winners this year is encouraging proof that our industry is on its way back.?

Over 12,919 entries were submitted from 54 countries for this year?s competition in television, print and radio categories. Winners and finalists will be featured in the commemorative One Show Annual, which will be released later this year. The One Show is the culmination of the week-long 2004 One Show Festival, held for the second consecutive year in downtown Manhattan at the stunning Winter Garden of the World Financial Center.
