Mar 31, 2009

New York, NY - For the first time ever, an ambitious festival celebrating all forms of creativity called "Creative Week NYC" will take place in New York from May 4-8, which was announced today by Mary Warlick, Chief Executive Officer of The One Club, the world's foremost non-profit organization dedicated to recognizing excellence in advertising and design. "Creative Week NYC" includes three prestigious awards shows honoring the year's best achievements in advertising, integrated branding and design in addition to events devoted to digital, music, film and the fine arts.

"There will be a myriad of events ranging from the One Show, One Show Interactive and One Show Design to agencies' parties and special screenings as well as museum exhibitions, all open to the public," says Mary Warlick. "'Creative Week NYC' will attract thousands of festival-goers from around the world to come to New York."

"Creative Week NYC" begins on May 4 with One Show Design, now on its ninth year, which has become a highly respected worldwide competition that is unique in the industry for recognizing excellence for innovative design in advertising, branding and other categories. This year's show will take place at the landmark IAC Building.

The following night, (May 5), there will be a special sneak preview of "Art & Copy," the acclaimed documentary about the world of advertising that was a selection at this year's Sundance Film Festival. There will be a screening at 8:00 p.m. at the IFC Center and it is being shown as part of "Stranger Than Fiction" film series. ("Art & Copy" will be released nationwide by Arthouse Films this summer.)

The One Show at Jazz at Lincoln Center will take place the next night, May 6. Now in its 34th year, the One Show remains the premiere international advertising awards show setting the industry standard for excellence in print, television, radio, outdoor, innovative marketing, integrated branding and branded content. Every year, Gold, Silver and Bronze winners are announced at this gala event. The international awards competition is widely regarded as the advertising industry's equivalent to the Oscars. The Creative unConference hits New York for two days (May 7 & 8) marking the first time ever that the advertising community in New York has hosted this hip and unique event.

"The Creative unConference is about creativity," says Kevin Swanepoel, President of The One Club. "No stale pitches from sponsors, no dated presentations, only the brightest minds in creative media gathering for a free-form, highly interactive event. If you are eager for an opportunity to talk to a diverse group of leaders in your field in a fast-paced, flexible format then you're the right person to come to the Creative unConference. You tell us what you want to say. You tell us what you want to hear. You set the agenda."

The Creative unConference will take place at La Venue, 608 W. 28th Street, New York City. For complete information, visit www.creativeunconference.com.

One Show Interactive takes place on May 8 recognizing the best in new media advertising with cutting-edge categories like branded applications, New Media Innovation and Online Branded Content. One Show Interactive, now in its 12th year, reflects the expanding realm of online and digital work. The 2009 ceremony and after party will take place at New York's Terminal 5, featuring California-based rock band We Are Scientists from Sony ATV.

In addition to the three awards shows, the sneak peak and the Creative unConference, there will also be an Education Festival (May 5 & 6). There will be Agency tours designed to give students an inside look into some of the top agencies in New York City, while portfolio reviews will also provide a unique opportunity for advertising students to have their work reviewed by top creative directors. In addition, the 15th Annual Student Exhibition Opening at the Westside Loft will also take place on May 5 where select portfolio schools and colleges exhibit their top seniors' portfolios. After the opening reception on Tuesday, May 5, the exhibition will be open to the public May 5 and 6 from 4:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m.

On May 7th, there will be a Client Pitch Competition and One Show Student Awards Ceremony. This year's College Competition client is Lancaster, PA-based Long's Horseradish. Finalists of the student competition will have the chance to present creative pitches to the client and a panel of top creative directors during the Client Pitch Competition, and winners will be announced at the Student Awards ceremony later that evening. The One Show Student Awards ceremony at the Helen Mills Theater will cap off the Education Festival with a fun-filled evening highlighting great student work from around the world. Gold, Silver and Bronze Pencils and scholarships are awarded to the best student work in advertising, design and interactive.
