Long Weekend, Short Films, One Screen

By Brett McKenzie on Aug 30, 2018

Five short films that show just how amazing One Screen can be

Lights camera, action! Last week, the One Club for Creativity announced that One Screen was again open for submissions. For those who don't know, One Screen is our short film festival that celebrates the sweet spot where the advertising and film worlds converge.

The first entry deadline isn't until the end of October, but going into this holiday long weekend, we wanted to showcase our previous Best of Show winners. If you're a filmmaker, this will help you know how high the bar is set year after year. And if you're not a filmmaker? Just kick back and relax, knowing that some of your weekend's "must see viewing" has already been arranged for you.

The Escape

Directed by Neill Blomkamp

One Screen 2017 Best of Show Winner

This BMW Films creation, launched 15 years after their short film "The Hire" completely upended the "branded entertainment" genre, features Clive Owen as the nameless Driver, transporting some very special cargo while on the run from the authorities.

Rocket Wars

Directed by Salomon Ligthelm

One Screen 2016 Best of Show Winner

A war to keep the peace. In the small village of Vrontados on the Greek island of Chios, there is unrest. For over a century, parishioners of two Greek Orthodox churches have engaged in a battle on Holy Saturday, firing more than 100,000 homemade rockets at each other’s churches once the sun goes down.

The Gunfighter

Directed by Eric Kissack

One Screen 2015 Best of Show Winner

It's a wild time in the Wild West as an unseen narrator guides the action inside an old time saloon Will our hero save the day, or be thrown through the fourth wall?

Great Adventures

Directed by Gerard Lambkin

One Screen 2014 Best of Show Winner

Heroes, villains, legends. Twenty years ago Billy and his Grandad were all of these and more, every Sunday afternoon before tea, in this magnificent, sweeping, suburban epic that celebrates the power of imagination and the bond between generations.

Voice Over

Directed by Martin Rosete

One Screen 2012 Best of Show Winner

Flitting from one harrowing situation to the next, the narrator in the first ever One Screen Best of Show winner can't seem to keep his story straight — until his panicky confusion all makes sense in the end.

One Screen 2019 is now accepting submissions in a variety of categories. The early deadline for submissions is Wednesday, October 31.
