What does becoming a Young Guns winner mean to you?

This was my first time entering and I couldn’t feel more honored and fortunate to receive this award. Most importantly, the real honor is to share this victory with such a talented and inspiring group of creatives.

It’s not easy to be a successful creative. What sorts of challenges have you encountered to get where you are today?

I feel like the biggest challenge is to truly get to know yourself and where you are headed. It all comes down to choosing the right projects and the people that are going to help you see them through. It takes so much commitment, fighting, and dedication to see a script come to life and, in the end, the final result, good or bad, becomes a piece of you that gets scattered out there without any premise or understanding of the process. It can be frustrating or extremely rewarding, but it’s part of the game and I gradually learned to trust my gut and deal with it.

How did you decide what to enter into Young Guns? Was it a challenge to curate yourself?

It wasn’t super challenging, mostly because my body of work is not that prolific yet. I sort of had a pretty clear idea of what pieces represent me best at the moment.

Can you name any past Young Guns winners who you look up to, whose work you admire or are even inspired by?

Mike Mills (YG1), The Daniels (YG14), Maceo Frost (YG15) and so many others.

What keeps you going, creatively speaking?

I like to push myself beyond people’s expectations, constantly chasing for challenges that can make me grow as a creative and as a person. It’s really like racing against myself, which is what keeps me excited.

Now that you’re a Young Guns winner, what’s next?

I’m gonna stay busy trying to make the right decisions while navigating life’s endless labyrinth. It’s been good so far and I’m really excited to see what’s next.
