About the Work
The global chocolate market has grown significantly in recent years, while price of cacao has been constantly declining, maintaining its lowest price. Many social problems have emerged after attempts of supplying low-priced cacao at large volume, the most critical one being the poverty of cacao farmers. LIFULL, the leading company of social enterprises, invented a novel solution which, instead of common ingredients of regular chocolate such as cacao mass and cocoa butter, uses the waste of cacao to develop a new chocolate with a new sustainable ecosystem to support cacao producers, researchers and chefs.
The new chocolate, ECOLATE, has sold out many times on the online store since April and the constant sales are benefitting the farms financially. With this project, approximately 141 cacao trees will be consumed annually as food ingredient, which is equivalent to conserving the natural environment of over 1,400 m2.
