About the Work

For our Oct. 10 issue, Jay Caspian Kang wrote about Asian American identity and the complications that come with having so many different people grouped under one term. We asked the artist Kensuke Koike to create collages in response to this idea of a search for the self. Koike often uses found photography that he deconstructs and rearranges into geometric patterns. In these works, we assigned Tommy Kha to shoot the images used for the final art.
