About the Work
For our annual Great Performers issue, we commissioned photographer Ruven Afanador. The photo sessions with 14 major actors were done in New York City, Paris, Los Angeles, and one remote shoot in Tokyo. Ruven is a virtuoso portrait photographer, and the performers met his tremendous skill in kind, summoning character after character in his stripped-down Neo-Expressionist sets. It was pure magic.
