About the Work

"Waiting for Mercy..." is a photographic story made by Dmitry Vyshemirsky in the 80s. Older male generation in Dmitry's (author) family died in Gulag labour camps. This book for the author is a visual confession, it is an attempt to find the truth and himself through the layers of history.
This book has been built on photographic narration through the construction of the book, which creates specific space. A book construction is not allowed to flip the pages fast. Through the knock out holes reader can see the parallel reality of official life regarding the author's narrative. Numbers on the edges remind camp numbers of the prisoners, the folding itself is an act of ruining people's lives. A concept of the book cover relates directly to the surrounding world of consumerism. This candy wrapper has to attract attention to the public as something familial and then opens completely another world.
