About the Work

Our Sept. 12 cover story was about how schools can address the learning loss that students have experienced because of the pandemic, and how they can help kids recover and thrive. For the cover, the artist Erin Jang created a faded bulletin board with pre-cut paper letters. The image is immediately recognizable as something you might see in a classroom that has been empty for more than a year.
