About the Work

Human bodies are often chosen, owned, and violated like lifeless groceries at stores or even takeout food. The "human body" is invisible in the package of objectification- only flesh for a twisted desire can be seen there. The dehumanization comes from the invisibility of humanness, which allows the objectifiers to treat an individual as if the person lacks any emotions, intelligence, thoughts or needs- it reduces them to a helpless object waiting to be consumed, locked inside the package formed by the objectifier's gaze. Placing the human body in a takeout food container is a metaphor of objectification, symbolizing that the thoughtless consumption of our bodies is also too easy. Each garment was created and draped with patterns of food boxes cut in fabric. Handcut leather letters mimic the labels on food packages as a reminder that we are all human beings after all.
