About the Work

The collection tells a unique and fascinating story, drawing inspiration from the traditional Chinese superstitions that Dairu's grandmother used to tell her as a child. Despite respecting her grandmother, Dairu was also afraid of her due to the horrible superstitions she was told. The collection reflects this fear and respect, paying homage to traditional Chinese culture and the value it places on superstitions. Each garment in the collection is carefully crafted, with imaginative and adventurous knitting that incorporates various materials and traditional yarns. Through her work, Dairu redefines the way clothing can connect people and its impact on society, making fashion a conversation starter for complicated social issues. The collection is a testament to the beauty and value of slow fashion and the importance of preserving traditional cultural beliefs.
In today's world, fast fashion has taken over the industry, causing harm to the environment and society. However, Dairu's collection provides a solution to this problem by creating garments and accessories that have been meticulously crafted by hand. Through her work, she hopes to spark personal, emotional, and cultural ties between people and their clothing, elevating it above the status of a commodity produced by fast fashion factories.
