About the Work
There’s a lot of pressure when you take a pop-culture juggernaut like The Walking Dead franchise and expand that world into an entirely new realm of a Google Voice Activation. But Breeder and Josephmark were up to the challenge, with an acclaimed repertoire in expanding high-value IP like Jurassic World and The Expanse. In a mammoth undertaking between production partners AMC, Folklore, Xandra, TalkVia, Breeder and Josephmark led the creation of a Google Voice Action that would demonstrate voice-first platforms as a promising environment for interactive storytelling.
The Walking Dead–Pathways is an original scripted interactive Google Action that places you in the middle of The Walking Dead Universe with 6 hours of entirely new stories and characters. Users are enrolled as a nameless female protagonist who leads a team through a unique story. Choose 2 of 3 additional team members, take them to 1 of 2 locations, and make 6 key decisions in each storyline. In total, the expansive story required 4 writers for just over 3 months to knock out the 215,000 word script from a blank page start. The final product contained 6 unique narrative frameworks with 3 alternate endings each for a total of 6 hours of gameplay.
