About the Work
Give Where You Live is an initiative designed to drum up interest, visibility, and donations for small, local nonprofits. With an integrated campaign that included an animated anthem film, a website that doubled as a recommendation engine, and a partnership with the NFL, we started a movement that drove generosity, donations, and community pride.
We wanted to bring people into a world of creative craft and charm, drawing attention to the importance of local philanthropy. Our message had to be engaging and optimistic, never preachy. So we developed a delightful animated world, populated with hand-drawn characters and original music to invite everybody in.
The technique stood out from the category and allowed us to create a modular narrative structure. This way, we could bookend bespoke, location-specific stories with graphic campaign elements that traveled across cities and touchpoints.
We threw the kitchen sink at developing the animation for this project: pen, pencil, charcoal, marker, tablet, shape animation, cel animation, a little bit of subtle 3D, loads of coffee, tons of hours, late nights, and elbow grease. Even some clever post effects that make things not-drawn-by-hand look like they were. Every frame is lovingly hand-crafted, penciled, and polished with the same level of care and dedication that the local legends we’re championing put into their work.
