About the Work

An illustration by artist Yuko Shimizu for a feature story on contemporary maritime treasure hunters and the controversy over the recently discovered treasure from the Spanish galleon San José. The work consists of a spread opener imagining the original ship battle which sank the galleon in 1708, a single spot illustration showing examples of the discovered treasure, and multiple tiny illustrations of gold coins, which were part of the booty.
