About the Work
London Symphony Orchestra New Season for 2022/23, will be Sir Simon Rattle’s last at the orchestra.
When he joined in 2017, the orchestra launch with a new visual identity that placed Sir Simon Rattle at the heart of brand by using motion data capture of his conducting movements to shape and inform all visual expressions of the identity and campaigns. And, since he joined in 2017, each new season’s film is a completely new interpretation of the motion data created in collaboration with a digital artist to reflect the new theme of each season.
Our brief was to create a final season’s film and campaign for Sir Simon, one of the world’s most respected conductors.
To pay tribute to Sir Simon’s artistry, his final season’s campaign draws a parallel between music and art, titled The Master Conductor.
We worked with a digital artist to transform Sir Simon’s gestures (as he conducts Bartók’s Miraculous Mandarin) into an expressive art-piece, painterly in texture with a sculptural physicality. The piece builds following his every move and gathers intensity until the crescendo, when the sculpture dramatically liquifies & drops to the floor – powerfully symbolising the end of an era.
The film will be shown at the Barbican, LSO’s website & social platforms. Stills from the film feature in the Seasons brochure and advertising. Posters are featured at the Barbican and at key London tube & rail stations.
