About the Work
In this cinematic film, the sound is conceptualized and designed to feel like an entire character. In absence of narration, the evolving and seemingly alive sounds of the dancer’s footsteps are used to communicate her emotions as if they are her voice.
Each sound heard was recorded specifically for this project. Utilizing a table similar to the one in the film in a comparable outdoor, vast, and silent location, we meticulously recorded foley for footsteps at various intensities and distances, the movement of the dancers’ clothes, and the sand and wind that flows between their red dresses.
In Post, we created the sounds of the dancers shouting, clapping and tapping to the rhythm of the music to further brighten the story. Overall, the process was a ‘dance’ between the foley, the sound design, and the music. The result is a bespoke, vibrant and visceral soundscape that immerses and transports the viewer into the moment.
