Jody Quon is the photography director at New York magazine. A photo editor with extensive experience in photographic reportage, portraiture and style imagery, Quon joined New York in 2004, bringing a sophisticated eye to a magazine that puts a premium on attention-grabbing photography.
Quon has received numerous honors for her team’s work at New York, including a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award in 2018, a George Polk Award in 2016, for the magazine’s news-making photo essay on Bill Cosby’s accusers, a World Press Photo award in 2008, National Magazine Award finalist for photography (2005, 2006, 2008, 2014, 2016 & 2018), feature photography (2013, 2015, 2016 & 2018), photojournalism and photo portfolio (2010), cover of the year awards from the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) in 2008, 2012 and 2013, Pictures of the Year International awards, and awards from American Photography and Photo District News. New York was named Magazine of the Year by the Society of Publication Designers (SPD) in 2006, 2007, and 2014, and has received numerous other awards from SPD.
Quon brought on Christopher Anderson, an acclaimed photographer and member of Magnum Photos, as New York’s first photographer-in-residence in 2012, and has cultivated emerging talent for the magazine’s staff photographer position, including Bobby Doherty, selected for PDN’s 30 in 2014, and an ASME Next award in 2015.
Quon joined W magazine as Creative Director in May 2010, and her work there was recognized with a National Magazine Award for photography in 2011. She rejoined New York in 2011.
Quon served as Deputy Photo Editor at the New York Times Magazine prior to joining New York in 2004.
