Lara Assouad is a graphic and type designer with a particular interest in the relation between Arabic and Latin scripts and multicultural identities. She has a Bachelors in Graphic Design from the American University of Beirut and a research MA in Arabic scripts and type design from the Atelier National de Recherche Typographique in Nancy, France.
She is the recipient of two Certificates of Excellence in Typography from The New York Type Directors Club, for Fresco Arabic in 2008 and Tabati in 2011.
She was amongst the selected artists for Jameel Prize 4 for her Modular Arabic Typography project.
In 2019, she had her first solo exhibition 'alphabets' at GreyNoise gallery Dubai, showcasing her modular approach to Arabic type design through four of her constructed typefaces.
Lara was the Creative Director of Design for Apple in the Middle East from 2016 until 2022.
She currently lives in Dubai, freelancing in branding and type design.
