My Role in This Project
My role in this project was as the Creative and Project Lead. After only a few months working within the EPCM industry which was mostly occupied by men, I conceptualized this campaign as I saw an opportunity to get more women involved in STEM. This campaign was led by me with the assistance of my marketing and communications team. We developed, produced and edited the entirety of the communications in-house.

Project Description
Founded by Women’s Engineering Society (WES), INWED is an international awareness campaign which raises the profile of women in
engineering and focuses attention on the amazing career opportunities available to women and girls in the engineering and construction industry. Young girls around the world want to be in STEM. But then suddenly, there is a shift. Studies indicate that about 74% of primary school girls have an interest in STEM subjects. Yet, data from Microsoft shows that this interest drops when they reach high school. Globally, the percentage of women pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) is small. In Africa, the numbers are even more
dismal. The greatest imbalance is in engineering.

In 2010, only one in four engineering students was a woman. Here in Kenya, STEM participation shows a clear gender disparity ranging from 30%-35%. Fewer women participate and even fewer complete their studies. In Kenya, the female participation rate at public universities is less than 30% in spite of existing educational gender policies and interventions.

As the leading Engineering, Procurement and Project Management company in the region, Synergetic Energy Partners decided to do something about this problem and encourage more young women to enter the field. We did this through a series of profiles, highlighting ALL the women in engineering within our organization and developing an internship program that would give young women the opportunity to learn from the best in their field and gain experience. We also hosted a webinar that featured our nation's top women in engineering, who spoke to an audience of young women in STEM from high schools and universities around the country.
