TDC Awards

The TDC competition, established in 1953, is the longest running, most prestigious, global typography and type design competition. Now in its 70th year, these awards are all about how letterforms are used and drawn, recognizing typographic excellence and celebrating new typeface designs in all global languages.

Description

Sketchbook of ᎥᎥ (vv), or yes in English, for motivation to keep sketching. Woven sketchbook featuring a Cherokee syllabary typeface called ᎧᎹᎹ "Kamama" inspired by and designed for use in Cherokee rivercane basket and mat weaving, as well as digitally. This typeface was developed while completing an MFA at VCFA and aims to keep our Cherokee language alive through our traditional crafts and digitally.

Kamama means both butterfly and elephant in Cherokee. From Butterflies to Elephants, 8-bit to Baskets.
