For 50 years, the Gold Pencil has been regarded as one of the top prizes in the creative industry. Agency of the Year is awarded to the Agency that garners the most points overall for winning entries (Pencils, Merits, Special Awards).

In order to receive points for the Agency rankings, a credited agency must meet the following:
- Agency must be credited under the Top Agency listing on the specific award win.
- Agency must be credited under one of these credit types:
Agency, Design Firm, Digital Agency, PR / Marketing
When multiple agencies* meet the above requirements on the same award win, the points for that win are equally divided among those agencies.
*Points are also equally divided with any listed Top Agency credited under the Internal / In-House Agency credit type.
MULTIPLE AWARDS WITHIN A DISCIPLINE
If the same piece of work won multiple awards within a Discipline, the points for the one (1) highest award* in that discipline were counted.
*For work that received a Best of Discipline honor, the points for both the Gold win and Best of Discipline win were counted within that Discipline.
AWARDS IN MULTIPLE DISCIPLINES
If the same piece of work won awards across multiple Disciplines, the points for the highest award per discipline were counted.
