About the Work

The renovation of David Geffen Hall will create a completely renewed relationship between the city and its orchestra, kicking off a new chapter in New York Philharmonic’s 179 year history. While being one of New York’s oldest institutions, predating even MoMa, the brand itself has lacked a connection to the city.

Ogilvy was invited to define a new identity with New York at its heart. Located at the iconic Lincoln Center, consisting of three entire city blocks in order to create the world’s leading performing arts center. A rare square inside the rectangular grid that is New York.

New York surrounds the Philharmonic, just like the audience surrounds the Orchestra. Referred to by New Yorkers as “The Phil” or “NY Phil”, we embrace their new name and transformed it into an identity. The logo is used throughout the system to highlight their world class performers and concerts, placing them at the center of the brand.
