About the Work
The brief:
Many tourist attractions cause suffering for the animals involved. As wild animals are not adapted to the human environment, the unnatural contact to humans means permanent stress for them. The foundation «Tier im Recht» (Rights for animals) wanted to make tourists aware of this.
The solution:
Handprints symbolize the sad consequences that humans leave on wild animals through their constant touching and grabbing. From cuddling with tiger cubs to elephant washing to selfies with tamed monkeys.
The execution:
The challenge was to make both recognizable at once: the human hand and the animal that suffers from it. That’s why we produced more than 500 real handprints and selected those that already had a natural similarity to wild animals. After that, the characteristics of each animal were worked out with love for detail.
The media:
A series of posters at the Swiss international airport and in highly frequented train stations leading to the airport. In summertime 2021, when traveling was possible again because of the low Covid case numbers.
