About the Work
This is an animated film telling the story of ‘Chicharron’, a chicken from the fictional island of Yara, and the chain of events that lead to him starting a rebellion on the island. Chicharron is a background character from the Ubisoft game Far Cry 6, the film was produced as part of the marketing campaign ahead of the games launch.
The brief, from a sound perspective, was to build the world and bring these characters to life in a cinematic way, to keep the audience gripped throughout the chase sequence.
The character building came from writing scripts and coming up with personalities for main and background characters, and to try to humanise them as much as possible, hopefully making it more engaging and bringing them to life. Casting was important and getting the language correct. During lockdown, the production team worked hard to find voice actors to contribute in other countries that had their own set up for recording. Researching the fictitious mythology of the island informed the team to write scripts for passing characters, rebellious chanting and calls to arms all adding another layer of detail and realism to help the viewer buy into the world. We foleyed each character, including the chicken, rather than using stock sfx. Hopefully this level of consideration and performance by the foley artist really helps the pace of the film and gives the animation pace and the character narrative intention.
All sound, foley, voices and SFX were designed and recorded originally with the narrative in mind.
