About the Work
The creative team came to us with a challenge: How do we tell the story of racism in the NHL in a raw and honest way, without feeling like there is no hope for change. The story has two distinct parts, or chapters, which are quite different in terms of emotion, the visuals and pace. The result is a piece that takes the viewer/listener on an emotional journey from tenderness, despair and frustration, to triumph and hope through action. Our approach was to write a song which at times almost feels like two different songs, yet with the use of powerful lyrics, a compelling solo vocal performance which builds to an uplifting gospel vocal performance it all comes together. The result is that the important story of these players is supported by rich, thought provoking music designed to inspire a movement the world can rally behind to evoke much needed change in the world of hockey.
