With Life is But a Dream, Park sought to capture a cool and unmistakably Korean vibe - something that feels traditional and modern at the same time. Music played a crucial role in achieving this goal, and for this he turned to his long-time collaborator, Jang Young-gyu. Jang is an in-demand film music composer who is currently at the forefront of melding traditional Korean music forms and contemporary western rock sounds together with brilliant results. He is responsible for turning Korean youth to centuries-old Korean music styles such as Pansori. 
 Employing this style, a major part of the film is driven by two singing narrators doubling as Grim Reapers. The traditional Pansori style is usually a singer / narrator accompanied by a single percussionist, whereas in Life is But a Dream the narrators sing to a backdrop of funky, psychedelic rock sounds. 
 Jang’s brilliant mixture of genres not only set the mood but drive the narrative of this short but sweet dream of a film.
