About the Work
To highlight Qatar’s persecution we gave their National Football Team its first ever LGBTQ+ football supporters group. Named after the team's nickname: The Maroons, The proud Maroons can’t have fans from its own nation, so we invited the worldwide LBGTQ+ community to proudly display their love during Qatar games. The Proud Maroons is the first LGBTQ+ national football supporters group in the Gulf Region, named after Qatar’s National team nickname: “The Maroons.” It's the only national football supporters group that can’t have fans from its own nation. Because they would be punished.
Dr. Nasser Mohamed, the first gay Qatari ever, was named the president. He is currently seeking asylum in SF and isn’t allowed back home.
