Diwali, India’s biggest festival, sees millions of families shopping for their festive essentials from hawkers. India’s hawkers are our version of traveling salesmen, as they often set up their shops in the markets, wherever they are able to find a place. However, the lack of permissions from local authorities and a permanent store pushes them to move around a lot, resulting in a loss of customers and business.
Cadbury Celebrations, keeping its theme of generosity at the center, decided to make Diwali sweeter for India’s hawkers. With #ShopsforShopless, we gave every hawker in India a space they can call their own, a permanent virtual shop. Customers could connect with the hawkers via these virtual stores and buy their festive goods. They could also locate the hawkers near them with ease. Even if a hawker shifted their stall to a new address, customers would still be able to find them online. This way, we made Diwali brighter for the ones who bring us its light.
