About the Work
In a world of mounting pressure, an invitation to McDonald’s provides us all with a small, but much needed moment of light-hearted release. That invitation is so universal, it can be communicated without words, food, or restaurants.
All it takes is a knowing raise of the eyebrows.
We claimed ownership of that knowing look, with an epic 60 second film directed by iconic British film maker, Edgar Wright - known for hits such as the Hot Fuzz, Shaun of The Dead and Baby Driver – in what was his first UK commercial in over 15 years.
The film told the story of a group of office workers conspiring with each other to take a break from the responsibilities of work and enjoy a moment to feel good at McDonald’s, by using the eyebrow raise action as a shared invitation. It quickly became a cultural phenomenon, watched by over 8 million people in the first weekend and inspiring over 2 million UGC videos across 40 different countries.
To support the film, we also changed the iconic McDonald’s logo for the first time in history, created hundreds of targeted invitations, and even gave fans the chance to save money with an app promotion.
