About the Work
Traditional fundraising communication is often conducted by portraying people in desperate situations as helpless symbols of a crisis, and inviting the Western world to help.
Our brief was as simple as it was complex: Raise (almost) as much money as the previous Save the Children fundraising campaigns, but do so while portraying children with the integrity and dignity they deserve.
The creative solution aims to show that when saving children, you are also saving so much more. You’re saving ambition, dreams, and imagination. You’re saving fighters, families, and survivors. Basing the communication on real stories from children, we’re retelling their experiences with the respect they deserve and portraying them as what they really are: So much more than children in need.
Tackling the ever present dangers of being forced to flee, «Save the Survivors» follows a pair of siblings as they lose their family and home, and search for safety. It's based on real stories from children, collected by Save the Children workers. Featuring an adapted, haunting version of Destiny’s Childs 2001 hit song «Survivor», the audience is taken along for the long and dangerous journey that unfortunately is the reality for the millions of children worldwide that are on the run. An open ending emphasizes the harsh truth that in all too many cases, survivors can’t always save themselves.
