About the Work
The sad reality is, America has a sleep problem. 74 billion hours of sleep were lost last year, and 68% get fewer than the recommended 7 hours a night. This has major health implications. To make matters worse, 52% of Americans don’t understand how their quality of sleep impacts their well-being. So when they sleep poorly, it leaves them in physical pain, feeling slow, irritable, forgetful and wondering why. People can’t fight what they don’t understand, so we introduced them to the enemy.
Junk Sleep.
A series of films began to unpack this common culprit, beginning with a specific feature of Junk Sleep - its ability to compound over time. Set at a late night diner, Liev Schrieber introduced people to the slippery slope of sleep debt and how it can spiral. Next, three films wryly explored the ways in which Junk Sleep manifests - physically, emotionally and mentally - as we comically confronted the perils of poor sleep and an overtired existence.
Lastly, a final film tackled something even bigger, our complacency with Junk Sleep and the culture that allows it to thrive. We’re connected to everything and everyone, all the time. We live in a world setup for us to stay up. In this film, a sleepless, surreal purgatory is used to examine the underbelly of an ‘always on’ culture and pass commentary on bad bedtime behaviors like binge-watching, looming work deadlines and social media stimulation that fuel our Junk Sleep ways.
More than a series of films, this was a reminder to Americans who make their sleep less of a priority, that a better sleep can actually mean a better you. And only the sleep experts at Mattress Firm can help you fight to prioritize proper sleep - beginning with the bed, tools and solutions to soothe your sleep health woes.
