About the Work

As one of Australia's leading insurance companies, Suncorp knows only too well about the devastating effects of climate change. In 2020 alone, 134,000 Australian homes were damaged by extreme weather. And as our climate continues to change, current building codes will continue to fail. In 2021, Suncorp created 'One House To Save Many', which was a project to design and scientifically test a house that could withstand bushfires, floods and cyclones. In this follow up campaign, we applied the learnings to a real community. In the ‘Resilience Rd’ project, we took one of Australia's most vulnerable streets and made it one of the strongest. Experts analysed five neighbouring homes on a disaster-prone street in the Central Queensland town of Rockhampton, and applied the scientific learnings and techniques from 'One House' to make each home more resilient to bushfires, floods and cyclones. We created TV, OOH, social, and a 6-minute film that documented the project, featuring the mayor of Rockhampton, the SES, builders, the families themselves, and other experts. We also drove people to a digital hub that featured a content series that taught Australians how to build resilience into their own homes. Suncorp targeted renovation obsessed Australians through partnerships with ‘The Block’, ‘Real Estate Australia’ and ‘Grand Designs’ to encourage Australians to ‘Make Resilience Their Next Renovation’. Resilience Rd has greatly impacted both the business and culture. But more importantly; As a result of Suncorp’s work in this space, the Insurance Council of Australia has since launched Project Resilience, which aims to embed resilience into the National Construction Code by 2025. The campaign was designed to teach all Australians the value of resilience and how to make their homes stronger in the face of increasing extreme weather. And to continue to position Suncorp as an industry leader in resilience.
