This project was all about bringing the power and energy of Whiteclaws iconic 'Wave' and using sound design was a massive tool in conveying this. The kinetic force of the wind and chaos is vital to telling the story here but it is also about the little details of all our characters on the beach previously going about their days only to be interrupted by the oncoming wave. We recorded bespoke crowd walla to bring to life the action from the beach as we didn't have any shoot sound to work with. It wasn't just about using heavy wind and water SFX as this can be very overpowering in a mix but balancing this against the music and dialogue. The contrast of our hero surfer rising above the day-to-day chaos is a massive part of this spot and our sound mix is vital in telling this story. The switch from the mayhem to the calm vocals from Melody Gardot is such a nice dynamic and leaves you listening to the track and what it's telling you, but at the same time feeling a contrast in the visuals. The calm and the storm. And finally bringing the power and punch of the wave at the end was vital and a strong way to end the mix.
