About the Work
Problem: Sick leave can make you sicker.
In Norway: A big problem for people struggling with mental illness is that your doctor has few other tools than to send you back home on sick leave.
This is a big problem because research shows that, not only can isolation escalate mental illness. In 1 of 4 cases the person on sick leave will start to self-isolate, making
it harder and harder to get back out. Our data told us that 3400 people in Oslo was self-isolating because they've been sent home on sick leave.
Client:
Fountain house is a NGO and a place to go if you're struggling with mental health issues. They're built on a simple idea: that we will get better by being together.
Idea: Behind closed curtains
To question sick leave we took over our capital, and brought data to life.
By using curtains as media, we took over 3400 windows, to tell the story about the 3400 people that were hiding behind them.
Results:
A local OOH campaign that became a national phenomenon.
Almost every national news paper wrote about it.
Both national news station gave us 15 minutes of airtime(combined) .
And for the first time Fountain house has met with the national doctors association and politicians from all parties
to discuss sick leave and a way forward - Making Fountainhouse a big part of the puzzle.
Because if a sick leave can make us sicker by sending us home,
isn't it time for a better solution? The one, like Fountain house, that can help us get back out.
