About the Work
Background
At Zurich’s annual Antiquarian Book Fair, traders exhibit rare and valuable books, prints and editions for sale. However, the fair’s audience is growing older – and smaller. Meanwhile, interest in the field among young people remains almost inexistent.
Idea
The timeless beauty of antiquarian books can appeal to all ages. Our idea was to bring the craftsmanship of these rare editions to social media platforms for young people to discover. How? By creating unique copperplate engravings of one of the internet’s most distinctive mediums: GIFs.
Execution
Each GIF was reimagined as a series of eight hand-etched copperplates, with a single print run created a collection of forty unique prints. These were raffled on social media and exhibited at the fair, drawing a young new audience to fall in love with the beauty of antiquarian publishing.
