Karin Soukup

Brand Experience Director

Collins

San Francisco

As Brand Experience Director at COLLINS, Karin bridges strategy and creative, bringing a design-thinking lens to the creation of experiential systems and brand interactions. She brings 15 years of experience in product and service innovation, brand, and storytelling across the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. Her contributions have been recognized by Graphis, Type Directors Club, Eye Magazine, the Society of Publication Designers, Communication Arts, the Center for Plain Language, and the Emmys.

Prior to joining Collins, Karin worked as a Project Lead for the global innovation consultancy IDEO, where she helped clients address complex problems by better understanding – and serving – their audiences. With a particular interest in designing for emotion, Karin worked with social workers to help low income Americans build confidence through financial resilience toolkits; created a safe peer-to-peer support system for cancer patients to reduce isolation and trauma; and enabled gig-economy employers to empathize with the instability of their 1099 labor force to create mutually beneficial outcomes.

In 2016 Karin was co-recipient of a Media Experiments grant from the Stanford d.school, for which she explored audience engagement in VR storytelling through human-centered design and rapid prototyping. The subsequent insights were enthusiastically received and referenced by VR speakers at Google's I/O 2017, Interaction 17 and MIT Open Documentary Lab's 'Virtually There' conferences.

Karin has also worked with Google Creative Labs, Imaginary Forces, SapientNitro, and various start-ups. Clients have included Google, HBO, Etsy, Hermes, The MacArthur Foundation and the US Government's Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. In addition, Karin has taught design-thinking at NYU's Wagner School of Public Policy and design at Washington University in St. Louis.

Karin is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts' prestigious "Design as Entrepreneur" MFA program, and holds her BFA in Communication Design from Washington University. She lives in the Bay Area with her husband Neil, where in her spare time she pursues her passions for photography and art.
