Vanda sanderiana is my tribute to the vivid beauty of the waling-waling, an endemic flower crowned Queen of Philippine Orchids. At the heart of this collection is a set of stacking rings I designed to resemble the orchid’s delicate composition — a concept made possible with the craftsmanship of local jewellers from my home province.

With my partners at Basic Movement, a local fashion label, we found the perfect artisans to bring the rings to life. Using my sketches, the jewellers produced a mold for two designs: a gold-plated set and a coloured version that I hand-painted as a prototype for production. I’ve since expanded this collection to include button shirts and a scarf featuring native butterflies that complement the waling-waling.

A portion of the sales from this collection will go to the Philippine Native Plants Conservation Society Inc., a non-profit devoted to the protection of indigenous Philippine plants and their habitats. Thanks to the people involved in this project, Vanda sanderiana has transformed into a small celebration of design, local artisanship, and the continued survival of our homegrown flora.

This project is an initiative of mine, brought to life with the help of Basic Movement and the local artisans of my province. I conceptualised the idea of the stacking rings inspired by the waling-waling. I also illustrated the drawings used for the scarf and the clothes.
