Young Guns 19 Jury
Book Designer & Design Researcher
Mexico City, Mexico
Member of the Alliance Graphique Internationalle since 2018, Selva Hernández (Mexico City, 1974) has been an editorial designer since the 1990s. Her personal and professional work is driven by an overflowing passion for books and printed words. Born among the dust and smell of her family's old bookstores, she began at an early age to collect ex-libris and illustrated books; from there she embarked to study, research, lecture, mount exhibitions, and write compulsively about books. Her favorite activity is designing pages for poets, artists and writers, choosing the materials for her next book and looking for the right venues to publish risky books by strange authors with few resources.
She currently divides her professional practice between risograph and movable type printing, editing and design at Ediciones Acapulco, and teaching at Centro de Diseño, Cine y Televisión. She also runs a bookstore dedicated to art, design and chilaquiles in the Condesa neighborhood of Mexico City.
