PlayLab has been, is, and always will be the collaborative art and design practice of Archie Lee Coates IV and Jeffrey Franklin. Incorporated in New York in 2008, we started making things together in 2005. Over the past eight years, we’ve either initiated or worked on hundreds of projects that span the gamut of design: a community run pie shop in Alabama, a new typology of street tents on the Bowery, a series of workshops in Saudi Arabia, solutions for the bored in Germany, a charter school in California, and an entire city block in the capital of Croatia.
We're not always sure what we're doing, or where we're going, so we keep the studio simple. We work on things that interest us. Sometimes for ourselves, and sometimes for others. We'll see what we see when we get there.
