Young Guns 2 WINNERS

1998: Realizing it had struck a chord with the creative community, the Art Directors Club launched Young Guns 2, putting out a call for more New York-based nominations. By way of a ten-person selection committee, 93 young artists and designers were welcomed into the second Young Guns class.

Brian Bress

Brian Bress, a Los Angeles based artist and filmmaker, creates absurd, circularly narrative films driven by the circumstances of a bizarre cast of ridiculously costumed characters, more often than not played by Bress himself. Brian received a BFA in film from Rhode Island School of Design and a MFA in painting from University of California, Los Angeles. His collages, photographs, videos, sculptures and paintings have been exhibited in various group shows and film festivals in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York, including Spike and Mike’s Festival of Animation, Black Maria Film Festival, New York Director’s Club Biennial and The LA Weekly Biennial. Brian Bress’s work will be the subject of a solo show curated by Ellen Rudolph at The Akron Art Museum in October 2018. Bress’s work was recently included in “Commercial Break” (Public Art Fund, New York, NY) and the 2016 Moving Image Biennial at the Centre d'Art Contemporain Genève, curated by Caroline Bourgeois, Andrea Bellini and Massimiliano Gioni. A touring solo museum exhibition, “Brian Bress: Make Your Own Friends,” traveled in 2016 from the Utah Museum of Fine Arts (Salt Lake City, UT) to the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver (Denver, CO) to the Orange County Museum of Art (Newport Beach, CA). It was accompanied by a catalog. Bress has recently had solo exhibitions and projects at the Baltimore Museum of Art (Baltimore, MD), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Los Angeles, CA); Museo d'arte contemporanea (MACRO) (Rome, Italy); Santa Barbara Museum of Art (Santa Barbara, CA); and New Museum (New York, NY). Brian is represented by Philip Martin Gallery in Los Angeles and Josh Lilley Gallery in London. Bress recently had his debut solo exhibition in London with Josh Lilley Gallery.
