Young Guns
Young Guns is a portfolio competition awarding creative professionals 30 years and under, including designers, illustrators, entrepreneurs, and more!
2001: Young Guns continued to grow, not only in the number of nominations, but also in how the winners were celebrated. For the first time ever, Young Guns 3 were featured in a full-color hardcover book, alongside the traditional exhibition. This year, a seven-person committee selected 99 New York-based young creatives to join the ranks of a community already growing in stature.

Partner Freecell Architecture Brooklyn
John Hartmann (YG3) is co-founder of Freecell, the Brooklyn based architecture, interior, and fabrication studio. The studio grew out of an obsession to physically engage with materials and mechanics to invent solutions. Freecell has created installations, designed exhibitions, and fabricated furniture for twenty years. The work relies on active participation of the occupants to surprise and challenge. The site-specific installations that question the use and perception of space have been exhibited at SFMOMA, Pulitzer Arts Foundation, Artists Space, and won a Special Mention Award for the exhibition for the American Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. John is a recipient of the Rome Prize and an Architectural League Emerging Voice. He has held residencies at SVA’s Visible Futures Lab and the MacDowell Colony, and taught at Rhode Island School of Design, the Cooper Union, China Academy of Art, and Princeton University.
