Young Guns

Young Guns is a portfolio competition awarding creative professionals 30 years and under, including designers, illustrators, entrepreneurs, and more!

2009: Beginning this year, Young Guns became an annual competition. Its international growth continued to shine, with nearly half of all entries coming from outside of the United States. For the first time ever, the top scoring Young Guns 7 winners were awarded grants, with project funding being awarded to visual artist Siggi Eggertsson, director duo Fx&Mat and designer Mario Hugo. The Young Guns 7 ceremony and party took place on October 21, 2009.

Michelle Higa Fox is an Emmy-award winning artist and filmmaker who combines code-based visuals with hand-made animation. With over fifteen years experience in motion graphics, animation and experience design, her work has earned the Art Directors Club Young Guns award and Best Music Video award at SXSW.

In 2012, she founded Slanted Studios to develop commercial projects, music videos and interactive art installations at the intersection of animation and emerging technology. Their clients include Netflix, Facebook, Twitter, Adult Swim, Coach, Nike, Samsung and Viacom.

Michelle’s collaborations with MacArthur Fellow Camille Utterback have produced permanent interactive public art installations on both coasts. She served as creative director for the inaugural season of the Peabody Award-winning Netflix original series, Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj and Vox Media’s new explainer series, Answered, delivering daily on Quibi.
