Young Guns

Young Guns is a portfolio competition awarding creative professionals 30 years and under, including designers, illustrators, entrepreneurs, and more!

2011: By the time Young Guns 9 rolled around, there was already a rich history and entire community of past winners ready to welcome in a new class. This allowed designer and YG5 winner Nassim Higson to call upon the Young Guns family to participate in his call for entries campaign. Jessica Hische (YG7), James Victore (YG1), Rodrigo Corral (YG7), Julia Hoffmann (YG4), Jennifer Daniel (YG8), Jayson Atienza (YG5), Sam Weber (YG7), Sarah Wilmer (YG6), Greg Brunkalla (YG6) and Jonathan Jackson (YG5) stepped up to take part in a very bruising campaign.

The YG9 ceremony and party unfolded on October 13, 2011.

Alex Mapar

Alex is a New York based commercial director, illustrator and animator.

He's recognized for his multidisciplinary, semiotics driven work, which has been unnecessarily and overly explained as "colorful and bold, sometimes surreal, always graphic and with a sense of subversive humor at its middle."

In his personal work he loves to get weird with characters, odd shapes and graphic psychedelia, all in the effort of telling stories that provoke thought, discussion and laughter.

He’s worked with everyone from Coke to Malibu, NBC to MTV, IBM to Google, Shopify to Warby Parker and Buck to Psyop. He also shaped and continues to teach the final thesis class for the Mograph Mentor school, producing videos for charities in need while mentoring young artists. He is also a Thesis Advisor at SVA and has given talks at SVA, NYU and for the ADC.
